Forest of Dean

I have had love affair with the Forest of Dean for 20 years now. I used to take groups of students for a residential to the area. Staying in St Briavels, sleeping in the so stated YHA haunted castle, orienteering around the forest. I was never a great fan of giving a twelve year old the map and compass and just following… So memorised the forest so we never went far off course! Checked out the Sculpture Trail and the amazing cake at Beechenhurst Lodge. My favourite place of the week was Puzzlewood a unique and enchanting lush green space full of charm enchantment.

Best news of all, my best friend has moved there, so I don’t even have to come up with an excuse to visit, even have my own comfy bed. My sausage dogs Dudley and Hector love the forest for walks, scooting round Cannop Ponds, or a big long walk to the bottom of Symonds Yat and having lunch in the Saracens Head Inn… You need the superb nourishment to get back up the hill to the car park…

It is one of those places that remain ‘as yet’ undiscovered. Because of that it remains beautiful, tranquil with so many interesting places to see and things to do… Look it up!
